Strasbourg, the capital of Alsace is located on the banks of the river Rhine, on the Germany boarder. The city draws its name from the word Strateburgum meaning the city of the roads. Strasbourg was a thriving commercial center in the Middle Ages when building began on the cites most notable landmark Cathedrale Notre-Dame. Other areas of interest include The Petite France and Strasbourg's medieval quarter. Today the city it is the seat of the European Council, the European Parliament and the European Court of Human Rights.
