Shanghai is China's largest city and is situated on the banks of the Chang Jiang delta where the Yangtze River flows into the East China Sea. Shanghai is a busy sea port and its name literally means 'on the sea'. The city has a vibrant atmosphere with attractions that include the picturesque Bund, Shanghai's famous waterfront promenade that has become the centre of international finance as well as a touring resort and Nanjing Road, one of the world's busiest shopping streets. Cultural sites in Shanghai include Yufo or the Jade Buddha Temple that got its name from the two jade statues of Sakyamuni, The Yuyuan Gardens that date back to the Ming Dynasty and Shanghai Museum which houses a superb display of porcelain and sculptures. Shanghai will also be home to the world's tallest building, the planned World Financial Centre when it is completed in 2007.
Shanghai has two airports: Hongqiao Airport and Pu Dong International Airport.
