Semi-tropical San Diego is a beautiful coastal city on the shores of the Pacific Ocean. This harborside city has a Mediterranean facade with white-washed buildings and cultural influences from Mexico. Downtown is the massive Horton Plaza shopping mall with hotels, convention facilities, restaurants, nightclubs and shopping venues. Just east is Gaslamp District, if you venture west you will find Embarcadero a 14-acre shopping and dining complex. However the 1,200-acre Balboa Park is the cultural and tourist center of San Diego with its many museums and art galleries. If you leave the city in a northweat direction heading towards La Jolla (or "the jewel" in Spanish) will find the city's main beaches including Coronado Beach and Mission Beach near Sea World.
