Reno is the second largest city in Nevada, after Las Vegas. It is located 22 miles north-east of Lake Tahoe in the high desert. Known as "The Biggest Little City in the World" Reno became famoued for its casinos after Nevada's legalization of casino gambling in 1931. Gambling is still the number one attraction however there is more to the Reno than its casinos. The possibilities are endless with art galleries, museums, fun parks, or just strolling the River Walk with fountains, shops and native plants overlooking the Truckee River. Take a ride down the strip at night ot if you time visit Pyramid Lake, a beautiful high-desert lake surrounded by rolling mountains. Other attraction in and around Reno include Animal Ark Wildlife Sanctuary, the Fleischman Planetarium at the University of Nevada and Wild Island. Annual events include the Reno Rodeo in June and the Great Reno Balloon Race in September.
