The eight-sided Place Vendome built between 1687 and 1721 is a supreme symbol of Parisian chic. The square is closed except for two openings with a statue of Colonne Vendome made with the bronze from 1250 Austrian and Russian cannons captured by Napoleon at Battle of Austerlitz in 1807. The prestigious Ritz Hotel and other expensive boutiques and jewellers can be located in the square.
