Standing in the heart of the Quartier Latin the Pantheon dominates from the top of the Sainte-Genevieve hill on the Seine left bank. Originally commissioned by Louis XV the church was completed during the Revolution and was dedicated as a final resting place and memorial for the Revolutionary heroes. It now houses among others the remains of numerous French notables including Pierre and Marie Curie, and Victor Hugo.
