The central area of the right bank is the much renovated first arrondissement. This area is home to one of the world's largest and greatest museums, The Louvre, a favourite among the millions of tourists who visit Paris every year. With its controversial glass pyramid entrance this landmark offers both culture and panoramic views. Other museums in this locality include Musee des Arts Decoratifs, The Museum of Decorative Arts and Musee de la Mode et du Textile, The Museum of Fashion, a collection that documents the history of fashion from 1780 to modern day. Les Halles is home to the Palais-Royal, the Place Vendome, the 17th century place des Victoires and the Rue de Rivoli with its sheltered arcades of shops. This first arrondissement is well connected with the central metro point of Chatelet allowing easy access to the rest of the City. The elegant Les Halles provides an excellent base for both sight-seeing and shopping.
