Palm Springs is a city located in Riverside County, California. The area was originally used to cultivate date palms, but in recent years these have been mostly replaced by the desert resort. Being a relatively short drive east from Los Angeles Palm Springs has long been associated with Hollywood celebrities. The desert has been transformed into a lush semitropical paradise where swimming, sunbathing, golfing, and playing tennis are the primary pastimes in this little oasis. Golf is especially popular with the Palm Springs area reputed to be the Golf Capitol of the World. The city does however have a large number of other attractions beyond theses usual pursuits. There are many art galleries most of which are located on Palm Canyon Drive, Annenberg Theatre and shopping along El Paseo. For nature lovers there is the desert to explore, Joshua Tree National Park, the beautiful Palm Canyon Drive and nearby the Moorten Botanical Gardens. Also Jeep tours are a great way to experience the natural beauty outside of Palm Springs such as desert, the Canyons and the San Andreas Fault. And for some heat relief there is the popular Oasis Water Park. Palm Springs is served by Palm Springs Airport.
