Osaka (Ousaka), is Japans third largest city. Together with Kyoto, Nara, and Kobe, Osaka forms the Kansai metropolitan area. It is located at the mouth of the Yodo river on Osaka Bay, on the island of Honshu. Osaka was Japans first capitals in the 7th century and although on first appearance it may seem to appear rough round the edges with constant rush hour and an ugly web of overhead electrical cables and little architectural harmony, much of Japans art originated here. Some of these include the performing arts of Kabuki, Noh and Bunraku, The tea Ceremony and flower arrangement. Not surprisingly it's known for its writers, artists, musicians and comedians. Tourist attractions include: Osakajo (Osaka Castle), Kaiyukan(Japans best acquarium) located in Osaka Bay Shinsekai district and Osaka Tower, Minami(Famous entertainment and shopping district) Sumiyoshi Taisha(Osaka's most prominent shrine), Peace Osaka(Museum about the horrors of World War II). There are also numerous amusement parks including Universal Studios Japan, Expoland, and Festival Gate.

Osaka is served by Kansai International Airport which is a major gateway to the rest of Japan.
