Munich is the capital of Bavaria and is located to the north of the Bavarian Alps on the River Isar. It has recently become Germany's second most popular destination after Berlin. The city is named after the monks who started the tradition of brewing here - Munich, or 'home of the monks.' The city is also famed for its annual Oktoberfest that attracts about 7 million visitors to Munchen each year.
