The Notting Hill Carnival takes place over the Sunday and Monday of the last weekend in August and is officially the biggest street party in Europe. The festivities started as a local pageant and fair and have become a full-blooded Caribbean carnival attracting millions of people from all around the world. Amazing costumes, imaginative floats and loud music are the centre pieces and to keep you well fed, there are hundreds of stalls lining the streets of the area selling all sorts of food and drink including Caribbean specialties.
