Oxford Street - known as the golden mile - is probably the most famous shopping street in London. Most of the year round it's crowded with shoppers, and most of these shoppers don't live in London. A staggering 10 million pairs of shoes are sold each year in Oxford Street enough to stretch toe to toe five times round the world. The Street is packed with big high street names with some of the biggest music stores in Britain. There are also a wide variety of bars, pubs and restaurants where you can rest the shopping bags for a while. A visit to St. Christopher's Place, one of the many side roadways leading of the main street, is a refreshing treat away from the crowds where various performances take place in the piazza. St Christopher's Place is a multiple winner of the "Britain in Bloom" competition for the best shopping street in England.
