Innsbruck the capital of the Tyrol is situated in the central Alps. Its location in a narrow valley beneath rugged mountain peaks makes Innsbruck an ideal base for skiing, the Winter Olympics have been held here in 1964 and 1976. The city as many Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque buildings and churches, interesting monuments, museums and galleries. Places of interest include Maria Theresien Strasse, Innsbruck's main street and the Old Town with its renowned Golden Roof.
