The provincial capital of the Liguria region Genova is situated at the foothills of the Appennines in the most heavily wooded region in Italy. Legend has is that Genova was the birth place of Christopher Columbus. Founded by the Ligurians who established a maritime trading center from 5th century, Genova is now the most important commercial port in Italy. The old center of the city is distinctive maze of narrow streets that lead to the redeveloped port area and The Aquarium. From here it is also possible to catch one of the many boats trips to Portofino, Camogli, S.Fruttuoso and Le Cinque Terre.
