The city of Dresden is located on the banks of the river Elbe and was once know as "Florence on the Elbe." Unfortunately much of the city was destroyed during the war in 1945. Dresden is however once again a major sightseeing destination thanks the dramatic restorations that are currently underway. Attractions include the Zwinger Palace, famed as the most important late Baroque building in Germany and the wonderful countryside along the Elbe river with its many castles.
