Named after the wife of George III, Charlotte is a major city in North Carolina near the border of South Carolina. Other towns and cities nearby include Pineville, Matthews, Mint Hill, Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville, and Gastonia. Intense development over the last 15 years has resulted in great economic success for the city. The First Union and other banks have headquarters in Uptown Charlotte, which was built on the gunnies of the St. Catherine's and Rudisill gold mines. Charlotte also has a large number of theaters, museums, nightspots and nearby theme parks.
