Buenos Aires is the capital and largest city in Argentina. It's also the financial, industrial, commercial, and social centre of the country. The site of the present city was founded in 1536 by a Spanish gold-seeking expedition and is located on the northeastern riverside, overlooking the Rio de la Plata. Buenos Aires possesses an elaborate and rich cultural identity and is often called the Paris of the Americas. In the heart, just as in Colonial days, lies the Plaza de Mayo, with the historic Cabildo. Also here are the Municipalidad, the Cathedral and the pink Casa Rosada where once Juan and Eva Peron addressed the crowds below. Other places of interest include The Colon Theatre, Galerias Pacifico the shopping mall in the city's centre and the National Gallery also known as the Museo de Bellas Arts this gallery has a fine collection of European art. In the evening visit one of Buenos Aires tango bars, parlours or stage shows.
