Maybe you’ve been to London a few times in the past and think you’ve seen it all. In a city as old and as large as London you can never “see it all.” There are many places that you may not have thought to visit and we aim to tell you what some of them are.
Beaching it Along the Thames
Visitors to London during autumn or spring will find the tides are just right on the South Bank of the Thames. The tide is usually low enough to expose a sand beach tiny though it may be. Participate in friendly revelry that includes dancing, music, barbeques and chatting up new friends. The only thing you need to bring is the beer.
A Day at the Farm
Sure you can talk with the animals at the London Zoo, but you can frolic with them at a little known attraction. Tucked away behind the headquarters of British spies and south of the river you will find Vauxhall City Farm. Kids will enjoy learning how to groom ponies, ride on a donkey and even watch a demonstration of the cows being milked.
Brixton: An African-Caribbean Community
Though many of the London locals studiously avoid Brixton, it is the heart of the African-Caribbean community. Stroll the Victorian streets where visitors can get state-of-the-art hair extensions, a salon for manicures and pedicures and when you get hungry check out one of the savory jerk chicken joints. Treat yourself to plantains and yams from one of the stalls at the open market. The clubs and bars of Brixton will give visitors the best night out in London they could have ever hoped for.
A Market for Hot Goods
Not long for London is the former venue for the stolen goods of gangsters of the past. Bermondsey Antiques Market is where crooks brought the hot goods to be sold because of a now cancelled royal license that stated whatever was purchased there did not have to be returned. Each Friday morning long before the sun rises (4 AM) small stalls are being set up where early risers along with their flashlights can search for the best bargains. With redevelopment looming on the horizon visitors should take the chance to rub elbows with cheeky fellows that seem to have jumped right out of a British gangster movie.
So if you think you have seen all the sights there are to see in London, think again. There is always something new to be discovered each time you visit.
