HostelBookers are, on average, 8.7% cheaper than Hostelworld. Part of the reason for this is is because Hostelworld imposes a service charge. It is not clear why this service charge exists other than add revenue to their bottom line.
If you sign up to Hostelworld’s Gold Card (which costs $10 annually ) you could then save $2 in service charges on bookings over a 12 month period. However, this makes no sense as you can book at HostelBookers who don’t charge a service charge from the first place. That aside booking with hostelbookers has the advantage that they offer a lowest rate guarantee. If you find the same deal cheaper they will refund double the difference.
Have you had experiences booking with either of these two companies ? Do you know of any other companies that charge fees which you can avoid ?
