Las Vegas is known for its hotels and casinos, many of which are themed to resemble different parts of the world or periods of history to become a major part of your holiday rather than just a place to get to sleep at night.

Most of the hotels now feature their own theatres with entertainment each night to add to the experience, so why not find out which are the most popular themed Las Vegas hotels to stay in?

The Venetian

Based on the canals in Venice, The Venetian hotel has everything: swimming pools, a wedding chapel, a shopping complex and even a canal for guests to float through the resort on a gondola whilst relaxing and letting someone else guide you through.

The Venetian boasts the world’s largest standard suites along with 19 restaurants which are home to 6 award winning chefs, 4 bars, a spa resort and Madame Tussaud’s famous waxworks of well known celebrities.

The hotel also offers many different shows and forms of entertainment, most notably The Blue Man Group who perform in the specially built 1700 seat theatre, and a new production of The Phantom of the Opera.

The casino is a massive 120,000 sq ft and has every game you can imagine, including over 2500 slot machines.

A stay at the Venetian incurs a mandatory ‘resort fee’ of $19 per room, per night.

Paris

Bienvenue à Paris! Well, not literally. Paris Las Vegas is one of the closest things to the French capital despite being on the other side of the world, complete with its own 541 ft Eiffel tower, Arc de Triomphe and a replica of La Fontaine des Mers. The staff all wear blue and white striped t shirts, berets and a garlic round their necks (ok, maybe I’m going a bit too far, but they do try and make it as authentic as possible)

Situated in the heart of Vegas, you’ll forget where you are as the Paris hotel includes all the passion, ambience and excitement of Europe’s most romantic city, featuring fine crafted French furniture and marble bathrooms, along with Parisian streets that home to cafes and patisseries.

To add to the experience; there’s the Eiffel Tower restaurant, a Parisian chocolatier and Le Boulevard which tries to emulate the French city’s streets with imitation storefronts and streetlamps.

The hotel also has a swimming pool, fitness centre, spa and a health & beauty retreat for those who wish to lavish themselves with luxury. The Paris hotel also secured Barry Manilow on a permanent basis to perform his hits in their intimate theatre.

Over 100 table games are available in the 85000 sq ft casino, along with over 2000 slot and video poker machines.

The resort fee at the Paris hotel is $30 per person per night.

Caesars Palace

Caesars Palace has a Roman theme, but is named “Caesars” rather than “Caesar’s” because ‘every guest is a Caesar’. Priding itself on luxury, Caesars has over 3000 rooms available, and has special features included on the premises such as the “magical empire” – a purpose built theatre for magicians to showcase their talents, whilst superstars such as Elton John, Cher and Celine Dion perform at the colosseum on site, which was made to replicate the original in Rome. There are also an on site Bath/Spa and a salon.

For anyone who wants to hit the shops; look no further than the forum: an arcade housing over 180 shops and boutiques, with ancient roman streets with fountains and statues.

The PURE nightclub is also at Caesars, for guests who wish to party into the night at the number 1 club in the country. For the diners, there is an abundance of restaurants that cater for all tastes, including the award winning Guy Savoy restaurant.

Caesars casino is a whopping 129,000 sq ft with all types of poker including Pai Gow and Let it Ride, and is also home to the Super Megabucks jackpot slots.

The resort fee is $30 per person per night.

Luxor Las Vegas

The Egyptian themed Luxor is a 30 story pyramid, surrounded by two 22 story towers and a giant sphinx. At the tip of the pyramid is the world’s brightest beam, with 42.3 billion candlepower shining directly into the night sky, so you won’t lose your way home after a night out on the town.

If you are interested in Egyptian history, visit the replica of King Tutankhamun’s tomb discovered by Howard Carter, admission is $5 and the tomb is open until 11pm. There are 4 outdoor pools on site, surrounded by palm trees and canopied beds, whilst if you want to be pampered then visit the Spa at Luxor; Nuture. Luxor is currently home to Criss Angel’s Believe show with Cirque du Soleil, combining the two performer’s headline acts together.

The Luxor also has its own IMAX cinema screen, so if you want to watch the latest films or highlights of the entertainment shows then look no further.

Luxor’s casino is on bar with the best of them, housing all the popular games in 120,000 sq ft.

The resort fee is $12.95 per room per night.

Circus Circus

The circus themed hotel, aptly named Circus Circus, is home to the largest permanent big top in the world, which provides many different complimentary circus acts, shows and carnival games throughout the day, featuring trapeze artists & high wire acts.

The best thing about the hotel is the adventure dome with a theme park inside, which has 25 different rides including rollercoasters, a water park, a sling shot and a carousel.

There are 11 dining options are available, ensuring everyone is catered for regardless of their dietary requirement, including gourmet food at The Steak House and the world’s largest buffet.

An onsite gym and huge swimming pool compliment this family friendly hotel perfectly, which provides a comfortable and entertaining stay for everyone; and not just the adults.

The Circus casino has all the favourites in 107,000 sq ft and features its own poker room. The resort fee at the Circus is just $6 per room per night.

Treasure Island

Treasure Island (or TI as it is known on the strip) was formerly known as a child friendly pirate hotel, has now grown up to become a hangout for adults wanting to experience something different. The interior is still decorated with treasure chests to leave behind some of the legacy on which TI built its name.

Moving away from the pirate theme, TI still has some of the same elements, but has now been structured to accommodate a more mature market; adapting their free daily show from the battle of buccaneer bay to a new adult show “The Sirens of TI” which features pirates battling against seductive ‘Sirens’ on board their ship.

TI is home to Mystère; Cirque du Soleil’s longest running permanent show, which is now in its second decade of production at the resort. In line with its new theme targeting the adult audience, there is now a 50 seat hot tub, a night club and a party bar.

There are 6 restaurants on the complex to ensure it competes with the others in offering different styles and tastes.

TI’s casino has 2100 slot and video poker machines, along with every table game, an intimate poker room all inside its 95,000 sq ft base. The resort fee is $20 per room per night.

Excalibur

Named after King Arthur’s sword, Excalibur uses the Camelot theme to its advantage with its eye-catching exterior that wouldn’t look out of place in a fairytale. The turreted castle comes complete with its own drawbridge, moat and even a medieval village where the shops and restaurants are dotted around like a renaissance faire, so all the olde English lovers will feel right at home here.

For the diners, there is the Roundtable buffet; along with a host of other restaurants should you need to take a break from the casino floor.

Free shows are available at Court Jester’s performance stage, along with the obligatory theatre productions that rotate throughout the year at the Excalibur, or for children there is the fantasy faire which features plenty of arcades and games, including the SpongeBob Squarepants 4-D ride. Alternatively, check out the Tournament of Kings dinner show, a jousting competition whilst getting dinner served at your table.

If you need to unwind, head down to the Royal Treatment Spa for a relaxing afternoon of pampering overlooking the pool complex.

Excalibur’s casino boasts 100,000 sq ft of table games, slots, video poker and Megabucks jackpots, whilst their resort fee is $9.95 per room per night.

Sahara

The Moroccan themed hotel has tried to stay true to its roots by being the last remaining ‘Rat Pack’ hotel after the likes of Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr and Dean Martin regularly performed on the stage in the Congo room of the Sahara.

The Sahara is easy to spot due to its impressive bright and colourful towers that are visible from the main strip, along with its own rollercoaster, Speed: The Ride which fires riders 220ft into the air at 70mph.

Everything in the Sahara has a Mediterranean vibe, including the 5000sq ft pool, private cabanas, hot tubs and onsite Spa. Keeping in line with the Moroccan theme, there are bars called “The Thirsty Camel” and “Abracadabra” to enjoy a drink in, or head to one of the many on site eateries such as the NASCAR Café that makes you feel like you are at the races, with the sounds of engines roaring and screens showing the racing action, along with plenty of signed memorabilia from NASCAR racers.

Sahara’s casino features a wheel of fortune, 21^st century Blackjack, thousands of slots and a poker room in 85,000 sq ft of gaming bliss. The resort fee is just $6 per room per night, 5 times cheaper than the likes of the Paris.

Wynn Las Vegas

If you are looking for the best of the best, look no further than real estate mogul Steve Wynn’s palatial resort and casino, the Wynn Las Vegas. The luxurious resort lies on over 200 acres right on the famous Vegas strip. The Wynn boasts every modern amenity you could imagine and is the absolute class of Las Vegas lodging. The resort itself features countless fine restaurants, three trendy nightclubs, a golf course, a luxury car dealership, plenty of shops, off-Broadway shows, an enormous casino, and everything else a vacationer could hope for. It is the pinnacle of trademark Vegas excess.

Encore at Wynn Las Vegas

As evidenced above, Steve Wynn is a man who isn’t interested in being second best, but since his luxury resort and casino the Encore is only bettered by another of his hotels, we’ll give him a pass here. While the Encore may not offer quite the dizzying amount of entertainment options that its sister resort does, it more than holds its own with its luxurious rooms, large casino, and beautiful outdoor pool area, the Encore Beach Club. Directly adjacent to the Wynn, it is centrally located and is sure to delight all of its guests.

Four Seasons Las Vegas

While it may seem hard to believe, there are nice places to stay in Las Vegas that aren’t owned by Steve Wynn. For more than fifty years, Four Seasons Hotels Inc. has been welcoming guests to their hotels around the world, and their Vegas hotel features luxurious rooms and extravagant grounds. The Four Seasons is located on the southern part of the famous Strip and offers a smaller, more family-oriented alternative to the monstrous, decadent resorts that Vegas is known for. That said, it still has plenty of entertainment options, such as a glorious 8,000 square foot garden, a large pool area, and an award winning, full-service Spa.

The hotel at Mandalay Bay

Any list of the best hotels in Las Vegas would be incomplete without THE hotel at Mandalay Bay. The titanic hotel opened in December of 2003 and stands 43 stories high. Laying on the southern part of the strip, THE hotel is close to some of Vegas’ signature attractions, and if guests don’t want to leave the hotel to go out, they can ride the elevator to the top floor to the restaurant/bar MiX, which was recently honored with a Michelin star. Every room in the hotel is a suite of over 750 square feet, and they feature all the modern amenities that a patron could ask for.

The Venetian Resort Hotel & Casino

Last on our list is the Venetian, a resort and casino located in the heart of the Strip. The resort is massive and boasts all the excess that Vegas vacationers love. It houses over fifteen restaurants that serve up cuisines from around the world and a large indoor mall called the Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian that features over fifty stores and boutiques to investigate. Guests can also explore the Venetian’s two on-site museums — Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum, which features an extensive collection of life-size wax portraits, and the Guggenheim Las Vegas, which houses a variety of fine art. The Venetian is also known for its over-sized hotel rooms, which have helped make it one of the most desirable places to stay in the city.

Mandalay Bay: Mandalay Bay has the distinction of bringing sea, sand and surf to the middle of the desert with The Beach at Mandalay Bay. The pool area in Mandalay Bay comes complete with 17,000 tons of imported sand from California, 6 feet high waves and a number of water reservoirs that will fulfill your thirst for a pool in Las Vegas. The Mandalay Bay pool area features 4 pools and river surrounded by lush greenery. The hotel is great for a stay with your partner, but with a topless pool and the jet set crowd, it is not especially kid friendly all the time. The hotel is worth checking out for the largest wave pool in the area and the coolest pools and scenery.

The Golden Nugget: The Golden Nugget is part of Las Vegas folklore, and if you are staying here, then you can not only get the best of the gaming action, but the hotel also houses one of the best swimming pool areas on the strip. The main attraction at the Golden Nugget swimming pool is that it features a 200,000-gallon saltwater tank that houses a variety of sharks and sea fish. The cool part is that you can swim through these shark infested waters inside a glass tunnel that passes through the tank. With an ultra high water slide, this swimming pool is one that adventure lovers will enjoy a lot.

Other hotels with great pools deserving a mention here are the Mirage Las Vegas and the Monte Carlo Hotel.

Walking in Death Valley

I visited this magnificent desert with some friends. This is an experience that I believe should be lived in a group. The Valley of Death is a desert where billions of years ago there was the sea and in some places it is still possible to find salt and small stocks of salt water.

Like all deserts of the world, the temperature is very hot. The second highest temperature of the world was registered in this area.

How to get to Death Valley

There are roads in Death Valleys so you can get there by car. We entered the valley coming from Las Vegas via the road 95 that goes to Reno, where it turns west to Death Valley Junction and then continues on the road to Furnace Creek 190.

One of the places adjacent to the desert where you can stay is Death Valley Junction. This is a very small town in the middle of nowhere.

A simple hotel you could stay in is Amargosa Hotel. The rooms are quite basic and so is the hotel for that matter. There is no television, telephone and any other form of advanced technology. The style of the hotel is in line with the spirit of the desert a few meters away. I would advise you to stay here to really appreciate your sorroundings. Warning: This hotel is not accessible from any navigation system. I would advise you to get to these areas in daylight hours and with a very detailed map. The streets are dark at night without lights.

Sand Dune – Death Valley should be visited early in the morning before the sun is too high and it gets too hot.

The entrance to the Valley is not free, like all the parks of America. The cost is $ 15 per car. Bring plenty of water with you. eventhough there are many restaurants in the wilderness.

By car you can reach all the main sites of the desert. We have done the entire tour in one day, but the ideal is to have at least two days time.

Organize the tour in the desert in advance. Calculate about  20 minutes per site to have enough time to enjoy the scenery and pictures. Beware of dangerous animals, especially io snakes, scorpions who hide under rocks and sand-colored lizards. All these animals are poisonous. Animals that you can meet in Death Valley are: Squirrels, mice, kangaroos (rodent), hares, foxes, coyotes, wild donkeys, wild rabbits, desert tortoises, scorpions, many types of rodents, eagles and hundreds of species of birds.

When you visit the sand dunes, do not put your hands in the sand. Scorpions and snakes live in the sand and can bite.
