As Amsterdam is a compact city the best way to get around is on foot, or by using the extensive tram, metro, bus and ferry networks. It is cheaper to buy Strippenkaart or daily/weekly travel tickets that are available from tourist offices, tobacconists and some large hotels rather that paying cash for each journey. There is a free map of all tram and bus routes in Amsterdam available from tourist offices or the GVB office by Central Station.
