Jazz has always been popular in Amsterdam and many of the jazz greats have lived in the city including Chet Baker. There are many jazz and blues bars around Leidseplein and many have live music 7 days a week. Jazz Cafe Alto located at Korte-Leidsedwarsstraat 115, is the oldest jazz venue in town playing both classic and modern tunes. Bimhuis, Oudeschans 73, is probably the most popular. It is only open on certain dates but boasts being one of Amsterdam's prime jazz club over the last 20 years.
